SWIEIT Visit – Chester Hill High School
The SWIEIT Speakers team kicked off 2012 with their first visit to Chester Hill High School on Thursday 16 January. The speakers presented to over 30 students from Years 10-12 about their interests and experiences which led to studying engineering at UTS. The presentations were led by Laura, followed by Santi (Civil and Environmental) and Louella (Mechanical and Mechatronics) who shared some valuable insights about their journey as high school students transitioning into university life, as well as what it’s like working as professionals in the engineering workplace. Louella reflected on her passion for understanding how her favourite toys worked as a child (Tamagotchi anyone?) and how she is now a member of the Australian Navy who are paying her a pretty sweet scholarship to complete her engineering studies!
Jenny (IT) introduced the students to the wider world of IT with a presentation about scholarships, vast job opportunities and the advantages of studying at UTS. The students had the chance to ask questions as well as stimulate their mechanical interests by interacting with a Humanoid robot and Robo-puppy. Thank you to all the speakers who volunteered their time. Also, thank you to Careers advisor Ms Patrizi and Science teacher Ms Smith for inviting us. We hope to visit Chester Hill High in the future and look forward to seeing you all at the Women in Engineering and IT Hands on Day happening on 27 April at UTS Broadway campus!
